The ardent playing of cellist Anna Steinhoff can be heard in ensembles throughout the Chicago area.  She is Co-Principal Cello of the Advent Chamber Orchestra and a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.  She performed with the New World Symphony and Michael Tilson Thomas in Rome, Italy on the orchestra's 2004 tour, and has also played under conductors Alan Gilbert, Larry Rachleff, Ludovic Morlot, and Bernard Haitink. 

Anna's abilities with various musical styles finds her playing and recording with rock bands like Saturday Looks Good to Me and Function Ensemble, as well as playing in new music settings
like  the   Accende  Ensemble  and  the International Contemporary Ensemble.  She is also a member of Baroque Band, where she plays Baroque cello and Viola da Gamba.  

A life-long Midwesterner, Anna is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She earned her bachelor's degree from Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with Peter Rejto. In 2005 she moved to Chicago for graduate study with Hans Jensen at Northwestern University.  She also studied with Nina de Veritch. 

As a chamber musician Anna spent two summers at the Banff Centre with the Rocca String Quartet working with composer Krzysztof Penderecki, and coaches Lawrence Lesser and Lorand Fenyves.  She has also spent summers at Meadowmount, the Quartet Program at Bucknell, and Interlochen.
