Diverse in music as in life, Francisco Herrera is a violist, conductor, linguist, seminarian, and a frequent impetus for new ensembles.  He is a founding member of the Accende Ensemble, and also formed the Yurodivy String Quartet and The Symphony in Progress, a youth orchestra in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.

At the University of Missouri - Kansas City, Francisco studied viola with Stephen Kruse and conducting with Gary Hill.  He also studied conducting on a private basis with Glenn Block.
Francisco moved to Geneva, Switzerland in 1999 to study conducting with Sheldon Morgenstern and viola with Nicolas Pache at the Conservatoire Superieur de Geneve.  His freelancing at that time included touring with l'Orchestre du Conservatoire de Geneve

While conducting ensembles in Europe, Francisco developed a talent for languages and landed numerous engagements as a language teacher and interpreter in French, German, Spanish, and English.  Among his employers in this field were The World Alliance of Reformed Churches, Islamic Relief, and the United Nations.

Since returning to the United States in 2005, Francisco has been in the candidacy process for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  With his eye on becoming a pastor, he currently is in his second year of a Master of Arts in Theology at the Chicago Theological Seminary.
