A talent on clarinets of all shapes and sizes, Sunshine Simmons is currently an active performer around Chicago, Illinois.  She plays with the Quad Cities, Rockford, Green Bay, and Illinois Philharmonic Orchestras.  She has also performed with the Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Elgin Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, South Bend Symphony, and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. 

A founding member of the Accende Ensemble, Sunshine is also a member of the Lake   Street  Trio.   She  was  a  winner   of
Pittsburgh's Silberman Chamber Competition in her native Pennsylvania.  As the Bass Clarinet Fellow, she enjoyed three summers with the Aspen Music Festival.  She was also chosen to participate in the Frutillar Music Festival in Chile and Spoleto USA in Charleston, SC. 

As a soloist in 2007, Sunshine performed the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the Cluj Chamber Orchestra in Romania.  She has performed at Carnegie Hall as well as Boston's Severence Hall and has played under such conductors as James Conlon, David Robertson, and David Zinman. 

Sunshine received her undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a masters degree from Northwestern University.  She studied with Thomas Thompson, J. Lawrie Bloom, Russell Dagon, Dennis Smylie, and Joaquin Valdepenas.  She is currently a doctoral candidate at Northwestern University where she is studying with Steven Cohen.
